"Today was the 2nd time my almost 2 year old has been there. He was extremely shy, and they both were so patient with him! They took the time to show him the tools and just get him comfortable for future visits to the dentist!" —Theresa K.
At Best Impression Dental, our team combines our advanced knowledge of dentistry for children with child-friendly dental techniques to create the perfect environment for our youngest patients. The American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry recommends that your child’s first dental visit should occur within six months after their first tooth appears, but no later than the child's first birthday. Families from all over come to our general dentistry from all over to receive the best kids dental care near Spokane, including Medical Lake, Cheney, Airway Heights, Fairchild Air Force Base, and Davenport communities!
We encourage you and your child to ask questions and are always here to address any concerns you have as a parent. We offer empathetic oral health education and use simple explanations to answer your child’s questions.
If your child is anxious about visiting the dentist, ask us about our safe laughing gas sedation that could make their appointment even more relaxing.
Your Child's First Dentist Appointment
As a parent herself, Dr. Burton understands that you want the best dental care possible for your child. At Best Impression Dental, we focus on providing the highest quality pediatric dental care possible.
It’s completely normal for a child to be unsure or nervous about their first dental visit, but at Best Impression Dental, they don’t have to be! Our practice is designed to make your child comfortable and excited to visit the dentist.
During their first dentist appointment with us, we will count your child's teeth, conduct a dental exam, help them learn how to properly brush and floss their teeth at home, and clean their teeth. We may also use digital x-ray imaging to check the placement of their baby and permanent teeth and ensure their bite is developing in a healthy way.
If your child is anxious about visiting the dentist, ask about our safe laughing gas that we can use to help remove the uncertainty and fear from their dentist appointment.
Pediatric Dental Checkups
The American Academy of Pediatric Dentists (AAPD) advises that children be seen for a checkup every six months - and we agree!
These visits allow Dr. Burton to closely monitor new changes in your child’s mouth and ensure that you have the information you need to promote continued oral health in your child. Dr. Burton may suggest additional checkups if your child is more susceptible to cavities or if your child is showing signs of orthodontic problems.
If your child is anxious, has special needs, or just needs extra help staying calm and comfortable, Dr. Burton may recommend using laughing gas during their dentist appointment. Laughing gas is a completely safe way to help children receive the dental care they need without anxiety or fear.
Once the dental treatment is over, the gas will be completely out of their system after just a few minutes. Laughing gas is widely considered to be low risk. At Best Impression Dental, our goal is to always care for your child’s dental health in the safest way possible.
Teeth-Strengthening Mineral Application
Dental teeth-strengthening mineral treatments are safe and effective in decreasing the number of cavities in children. Dr. Burton often recommends this treatment along with dental sealants to help protect your child’s teeth. This teeth-strengthening mineral acts as a shield for the tooth’s outer enamel and can actually reverse early dental decay in some children.
Protective Pediatric Dental Sealants
Protective dental sealants are thin coats of plastic painted onto your child’s back teeth to protect their deep grooves and depressions from accumulating bacteria and food particles. Studies show that 88% of cavities in American school-aged children are caused by food and bacteria being caught in rear molars.
At Best Impression Dental, we typically apply a protective sealant to your child’s back teeth, premolars, and molars. The sealant will last for several years, but we will continue to check it during your child’s regular dental appointments.
Tooth-Colored Dental Fillings
Treatment for cavities in children depends on how severe the decay is as well as each child’s age and risk of future cavities. At our Medical Lake dentist office, we typically treat small cavities with discreet, effective tooth-colored dental fillings.
Wisdom Teeth Removal
Not all wisdom teeth need to be extracted – but some do. In many situations, it’s best to remove your child's wisdom teeth before they jeopardize their smile's health as a whole. If the growth of your child's wisdom teeth will cause damage to neighboring teeth, or cannot fully erupt, Dr. Burton and our team may consider extraction.
